Archives and Special Collections

The Averett University Archives and Special Collections contain numerous manuscript collections which are beyond the scope of the University's own history.  These collections consist of the personal papers of politicians from the Danville area ('Dan' Daniel and Charles R. Hawkins), prominent local families and individuals (the Rickman family, S. Rutherfoord Harvie, the Conway family), important local activists (Virginia Davis Bourne and Dr. Samuel Newman), and the personal papers and correspondence of former Averett staff (Fugate family, Phifer family).  Also included are administrative files from defunct Danville institutions and groups (Stratford College, the Danville Book and Art Club).

With the exception of items and folders marked RESTRICTED, these materials are open to research.
