Archives and Special Collections
A Guide to Averett University's Archives and Special Collections.
The Baptist Collection is housed within the archives and requires an appointment with the archivist to acquire access. It consists of dozens of bound monographs, many of which are old and delicate and must be handled with great care. The collection also includes lengthy runs of periodicals including, but not limited to, the following.
- Annuals of the Southern Baptist ConventionBound editions from 1866-1967, in over 50 volumes, as well as loose, paper editions covering the years: 1845, 1846, 1849, 1851, 1853, 1855, 1857, and 1859.
- Virginia Baptist AnnualMore than 50 volumes dating from 1935 to 2005
- Annual Report of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention11 bound volumes covering the years: 1915-16, 1924, 1940-68, and 1970.
- Southern Baptist Periodical Index30 paper- and hard-bound volumes covering the years:1965, 1967-72, 1974-84, and 1987-99.
- The Commission39 bound volumes of the Southern Baptist Foreign Missions Journal dating from 1941-1979
- The Religious HeraldA Virginia Baptist weekly newspaper. Bound editions of 1971 and 1973-1994 are availabe, as well as unbound copies from 1996-2006.
