During his quarter-century career as Averett's art professor (1943-1969), Carson Davenport regularly created his own Christmas cards - designing original artwork, printing, and assembling cards to send to his friends and co-workers.
Over the years, the Averett archives have received several of these cards from various donors. Currently on display are nine different pieces, including images of the Three Wise Men, angels with trumpets, Mary and baby Jesus, and a few of his angular abstractions of seaside houses.
All are welcome to come in and view the cards, on display in the large glass case on the main floor of Blount Library, from today until the library closes for the holidays on December 15th at 4:30pm.
And, if you like his work, head upstairs and take a look at fifteen other Davenport paintings and prints currently hanging in the library's other display spaces.
