Retrieve Articles

Download Full Text

Your successful database searches will identify a mix of full text articles and citations with abstracts. Each full text database offers a way to format articles for saving to disk or printing in HTML or PDF. PDF is preferred for your references because it is formatted like the original publication, making it easy to cite page numbers. PDF also includes illustrations and tables that are sometimes omitted from the HTML version. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print PDF documents.

Abstracts and Descriptors

To determine whether a cited article is relevant to your topic, scan the abstract (summary) from the retrieval list, or select the article title to view its full database record. Subject terms or "descriptors" are additional clues to the content of the article. Select descriptors to link to other articles on aspects of your topic.

Link Out to Full Text

For cited articles not available in full text, look for "Find it at Averett," "check for full text," or "find a copy." By selecting this link, you may be able to retrieve a copy of the article from another database, or request an interlibrary loan. If no links are found, copy and paste the citation into an email message to ill@averett.edu. Be sure to send the message from your Averett University email account. In most cases, Averett interlibrary loan staff will send you a link to the PDF within 48 hours.
